Located in mid-town Toronto, we are professional music teachers offering music lessons and chamber music playing opportunities for music learners of all ages.
Our purple piano was gifted by a dear friend who is a talented musician deeply passionate about music. This piano has accompanied him for years, and as he decided to relocate to a different country, he would like to pass it on to a musician.
By passing on the profound love, passion, commitment, and unique story of this purple piano to our students, our nurturing, engaging music lessons allow students to not only succeed their musical goals but also gain experiences collaborating with others through chamber music.
Having worked in professional orchestras and taught in music academies for over 15 years, we are dedicated to fostering close teacher-student relationships and providing students with unique practice tips to help them reach musical goals. Whether you are preparing for the RCM exam, participating in competitions or just learning music for fun, our teachers are here for you.
The best part of learning music is to be able to share music with your audience and play with others. At Purple Piano Music, we provide chamber playing opportunities for students to make friends and to learn how to collaborate with others through musical communication.
Chia-Yu Hsu is currently the principal bassoonist at the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, and an extra/sub bassoonist at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. While maintaining their private bassoon-teaching studio, Chia-Yu also teaches piano and music theory in numerous music schools in GTA area.
Chia-Yu earned a doctorate degree in musical arts (DMA) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019, a master's degree from The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University, Israel in 2014. During their time in Israel, Chia-yu was appointed as a bassoon soloist by the world-renowned conductor Zubin Mehta, collaborating with him on Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, KV 191.
An avid chamber music player, Chia-Yu has joined Meitar Ensemble (Israel’s prestigious contemporary ensemble), Wingra Quintet (Wind Quintet by professors at the UW-Madison), and Fellow Wind Quintet by the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Music collaborations and communications make up the core of Chia-Yu's education, which enables students to gain experience working with others at an earlier age.
